Shipping for Used, Refurbished and Zero-Timed Aircraft GSE.

Ground support equipment (GSE) is the collective term for the various support equipment that is used at an airport to handle the numerous requirements of the plane, passengers, cargo and crew. This equipment is usually around the jetway ramp (the telescoping movable ramp used to load and unload passengers), and the general servicing area by the terminal.

As its name implies, GSE is there to support the operations of aircraft while it is on the ground. The functions that this equipment provides generally involve ground power operations, aircraft maintenance, aircraft servicing, aircraft mobility, and loading operations, for both cargo and passengers.

This equipment is used to provide services required by the aircraft between flights. Some of the numerous services provided are:

  • aircraft refueling
  • cargo loading and unloading
  • de-icing
  • engine and fuselage examination and maintenance
  • food and beverage catering
  • lavatory waste tank drainage
  • passenger loading and unloading
  • potable water storage

Airlines utilize specially designed GSE to provide all the above services and more. Additionally, electrical power and conditioned air are often required throughout the gate waiting periods, in order to provide both passenger and crew comfort and safety. These services are also provided by GSE.

Zero Hours Used Equipment

Some examples of the scope of the work that is performed on all “Zero-Timed” equipment varies, generally all of the parts are brought back to the condition that the equipment was in when it was manufactured.

  • Belt loaders, new belt installed, belt deck repaired as needed
  • Belts and hoses replaced
  • Chassis stripped, inspected, required body work, primed and painted with chemical-resistant, UV-protection finishes
  • Drive line and steering overhauled as needed
  • Engine remanufactured
  • Hydraulics overhauled
  • New brake components installed
  • Radiator and gas tank tested
  • Rear end repaired as needed
  • Replace seat and new tires
  • Transmission, torque converter remanufactures

Who is responsible for shipping and transport costs?

Both the FCA and Ex Works are related to the transportation or shipping of goods from the worksite or the factory. In both FCA and Ex Works, the buyer has more obligations than the seller when it comes to shipping.

EXW – Ex Works – named place of delivery. The seller makes the equipment available at its location. The buyer is responsible for loading and transport. This term places the transportation selection and obligation on the buyer and not the seller.

FCA – Free Carrier – named place of delivery. The seller delivers the equipment, to the buyer designated carrier at a certain location. The seller must load the equipment onto the buyer’s carrier trailer.

Generally when shipping from a dealer or previously owned private party sale, the buyer will be responsible for the shipping costs.

Auction shipping and related costs.

At an auction the buyer is responsible for all shipping and related transportation costs. Auction items are sold by the seller “as is – where is”. The auction buyer (winning bidder) is responsible for arranging the pick-up, dismantling, rigging and shipment of the auctioned item and for the payment of all costs associated with the aforementioned.

Aircraft Transportation & Retrieval

Aircraft Moving

If you need your aircraft moved, Great Western Transportation will provide you expert flatbed trucking services, we are the planes moving company.

Great Western Transportation provides hauling of air-worthy or operational and also non-flyable or un-airworthy aircraft. We have transported all types of aircraft from small single engine airplanes and helicopters to large corporate jets

Aircraft transportation is not very common, especially if the airplane is functional, however, there are times when an airplane is not functional and it cannot be fully disassembled. Then moving the aircraft via a flatbed trailer will be required.

The transport of airplanes is possible primarily due to the hauling capacity and unobstructed loading options of flatbed trailers; flatbed trailers that are low to the ground can transport fairly high fuselages, wings, tails or helicopters.

Airplane moving and transporting planes will require the use of a flatbed trailer, due to the fact that a dry van trailer may only be loaded via the rear doors. Generally aircraft parts are bulky and weight thousands of pounds even into the tens of thousands and thus require a crane or forklift.

Plane Recovery

Moving aircraft is not an uncommon occurrence. There may be a need for the aircraft to be dismantled and then moving the airplane parts, ie: wings and fuselage, to other locations for repair or insurance purposes.

Aircraft teardown is primarily done on non-flyable or un-airworthy aircraft, the parts may be used for salvage or scrap. The larger parts, primarily the wing and fuselage are transported on flatbed trailers.

Airplane recovery may be required for insurance companies and their adjustors, in order to verify the airplane damage. In airplane recovery cases the airplane or parts are transported on flatbed trailers.

There are hobbyists and collectors who collect non-operable military or civilian planes, these are categorized as war-bird recovery and airplane rescue. Flatbed trucking companies provide the transport solutions to collectors requiring airplane shipping services.
